THE MARKET

Driven by growing digital wellness concerns, the market for phone lock boxes is rapidly expanding among students, parents, and professionals seeking uninterrupted focus.

Market Research & Industry Analysis

Key Customers

Study Quest has two customers, not one — the person who uses it, and the person who buys it

The global market for screen time management software was valued at around US$3.8 billion in 2025, forecast to reach US$9.7 billion by 2034 (~11% annual growth), as more families look for tools to manage device use (Dataintelo, 2026). Locally, our own survey of 62 high school students found most respondents exceed the Australian Institute of Family Studies recommended 2-hour daily limit, with 73% of phone time going to social media. Since December 2025, Australia’s under-16 social media law has removed millions of under-16 accounts from platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat — a clear signal that managing young people’s phone use is now a national priority, not just a private parenting problem. The law doesn’t cover messaging, gaming, or study-time

distraction generally — exactly where

Study Quest is positioned.

Teenagers (13–18)

Want less conflict with parents, more free time after homework, and a system that doesn’t feel like punishment

Market Research & Industry Analysis

•   Physical restriction only: Yondr and similar magnetic pouches (used in schools/events) lock a phone away with no gamification, reward system,

or study-specific features — built for institutions, not

families.

•  Software/small-device only: Brick (a ~$59 tap-to-block device) and Unpluq use a small NFC key to block apps rather than physically containing the phone. Aro pairs a charging station with an app that

rewards time away from the phone — the closest

existing competitor to Study Quest’s model.
